Sunrise Farm - Our Story
Sunrise Eggs had its humble beginnings with a very determined lady, Mrs Lettie Krull, who was tragically widowed and left alone to fend for her five young children, Wayne, Alwyn, Leon, Shaun and Diane. This was not an easy task but she did not shrink back from working tirelessly to produce quality farm produce for the local markets, whilst caring for her responsibilities as a mother too.
It was her tenacity and her passion for quality farming left a legacy and work ethic that still continues with Sunrise Eggs today. Inspired by their late mother’s example, Leon and Alwyn Krull continued farming eggs with the birth of the Sunrise eggs brand in 1997. Today, Sunrise Eggs has grown from a very modest operation to become one of the largest independent egg producers in the Eastern Cape.
Recent developments in feed and grading methodology have changed the way poultry farming is approached. At Sunrise Eggs we believe that keeping abreast of these developments is vital to producing quality egg products and meeting our consumer needs. Striving to remain at the cutting edge of international poultry farming and food health technology, Sunrise Eggs has sought to align its operation with stringent EU poultry farming standards. However, as a member of the South African Poultry Association (SAPA), Sunrise Eggs remains grounded and committed to our unique national market.
As a large supplier to both the wholesale value and formal retail markets, Sunrise Eggs is audited and certified by the Department of Health and Safety ensuring that each egg produced meets with strict health and consumer requirements, both in our Free Range and Colony Egg products. Sunrise Eggs has not forgotten its roots, however, remaining loyal to our informal and small enterprise market that supported our fledgling growth all those many years ago.
Our substantial fleet of trucks and light delivery vehicles ensure prompt delivery to the greater part of the Eastern Cape, stretching from Port Elizabeth to East London and much of the Transkei area through to Queenstown in the north.
Sunrise Eggs continues to expand to meet the ever increasing demand as a tribute to the courage and determination of Mrs Krull, the lady whose pride and integrity remains an integral part of the Sunrise Eggs Brand and the way we approach producing our high quality eggs.
